San Diego, great for techies

San Diego, great for techies

No, we San Diegans don’t get the latest AMD processor or the next iPod before anyone else in the world. Rather, we have three Jack in the Box restaurants that have touch-screen LCD order taking.

Oh, sukie, sukie.

Now, no more pissed off fast food employee taking your order or (worse) not taking your order and rather chatting with the cooks about how great the party was last night at Wayne’s and how it was fun watching all the freshmen get so drunk and then painting certain body parts on their forehead and Simon who was outside peeing in the bushes.

Ah yes, it’s the little things.

When I was at JitB this morning for breakfast, I also noticed they have a console for contactless (RFID) credit cards now too.

I still think we should implement my idea of an in-car LCD that receives a menu via Bluetooth when you drive through the drive-thru that effectively does exactly the same thing as these touch panel things in this post. Except that you have one panel in your car, and there’s a codified standard, and each restaurant sends its menu to you when you get within range.

And think of all the opportunities for advertising and marketing new products! In-vehicle talking adverts! Right on your screen! While you’re waiting for your meal!

Then imagine hacking into your car.

For instance, not only can you get E Coli from Taco Bell, but your radio will be stuck on nonstop Celine Dion.

Haha! There will always be hackers, and there will always be hacks. That’s what the DRM proponents haven’t figured out. Building a better mousetrap means someone feeds growth hormone and steroids to mice.

The first step is to make something, make it usable, then deal with plugging the holes that people want to exploit.
