Whew…that was close.

Whew…that was close.

Thinking that I was deleting my cache locally stored on my computer, I used Microsoft Live Writer to delete some posts–again, thinking that I was deleting from a local cache–just to tidy up.

Not so much.

After I found out that I was deleting my posts and was very deep into last year, I freaked out. I mean, it’s the digital equivalent of ripping pages out of one’s diary, or looking into that one chrome highlighter thing from Men In Black and removing any recent memory.

Coincidently, I updated my Wordpress on Monday–making backups and all that stuff. So, after not finding anything on the internet on how to recover from backups, I began playing with the little SQLdatabase. I recovered and *presto* I got everything back.

Up to that point.

So I’m missing anything recent–comments and maybe a post or two. But it’s better than nothing.

That sucks, sorry about that. We’re planning to add a warning dialog to Delete, now that we know some people don’t expect it to delete on the server. Glad you were able to restore everything.

…almost able to restore everything. For sure, I lost comments. But again, better than nothing. A warning dialogue would be a very helpful–at least something the indicates that it is accessing the posts from the actual server.
