Clean architecture.

Clean architecture.

Anyone who has known me for a while has known that I used to be an architectural major. This was before going into the more lucrative, yet creatively lacking computer science major. Further still, my favorite architect is I.M. Pei. However, I have noticed a change in my architectural leanings for the past few years. I have moved into simpler, cleaner, more functional designs (sort of if web 2.0 were to become a building).

Interestingly enough, my leanings are towards a design whose time has past–a design popular in the last mid-century. Think very square, very windowed, old 1970’s movies, James-Bondish, very old-school Volvo.

Enter Richard Neutra. He was an Austrian designer born in the late 1800s. He worked for a brief moment with Frank Lloyd Wright before ultimately opening his own studio in Glendale. His studio is currently for sale, going at over $3 million.

It actually looks like an upscale Ikea design. I’m OK with that.
