Well, I was a backer of the HD-DVD, but have been surprised by how Blu-Ray has taken off. It all came down to studio backing. And, yes, as seen, with Apple backing Blu-Ray, that gave it a major boost.
HD-DVD went from being the pick of the crop to being abandoned.

The porn quip was referring back to the days of VHS vs. Beta and how that “industry” affected the state of play. Though I admit Beta was a much better image and sound quality when it came to movies and long-term storage (it was the standard for studios to record and archive to, for many years). Many online speculated that would be the same decider with the new disc medias. However, most of that is so available online, that there’s no need for buying it on any form of disc (and who would want to see any of that in high-def… scary.) Thus negating that argument to comedy fodder.

But, now the question will be how long Blu-Ray and HD-DVD will last when studios start streaming movies and shows direct over the interwebs and allowing you to store the movies direct to your hard drives. But, the question comes with that, is whether those movies will be available to stream in high-def.
But, for the time being, Blu-Ray has a future, but so could HD-DVD. So far, these discs are still in their infancy and things could change.

And when I said backer, I meant I was one of those who stood on the HD-DVD side of the fence. (just in case of any confusion. My bad.)
