The Unboxing of the Blackbird

The Unboxing of the Blackbird

PICT0173

As soon as I got word that my Blackbird was somewhere in San Diego on its path to my house…my wife and I got ready. She was at the window, ready to alert me of the UPS man. I was doing stretches because I heard this thing was heavy and gigantic…like it’s owner.

Get ready for a ton of pictures. This may very well be the longest picture blog post I have ever done.

The UPS man was like “is this a server?” The box is huge. It should come with wheels.

2 stick figure people needed to lift this computer.

PICT0112
That’s me…all excited, but still needing to cook dinner.

PICT0114
Ah, releasing the Canadian air.

PICT0117
The installation poster–pshhh.

PICT0119
Lifting box one. The accessories were in here (keyboard, mouse, manual, and cables).

PICT0130
Sweet…the Razer Keyboard. It’s the Tarantula model that VoodooPC includes with the Omen machine.

PICT0139
A look at the software and manuals.

PICT0140
The Razer DeathAdder mouse, VoodooPC branded, no less.

PICT0142
In case I had crazier video card needs (past my 8800GT SLI setup that this includes), here are the cables.

PICT0145
My CD of drivers, all Blackbird looking.

PICT0151
Some Blackbird schwag.

PICT0153
All the manuals come in this neato Blackbird-branded box.

PICT0154
And now to open up the Blackbird itself.

PICT0155
First to stand up the box with the system in it.

PICT0161
I am trying to lift it. I knew it was going to be heavy, but seriously–this is heavy.

So, how is it? It’s been a week and I want to know if it is the most awesomest computer ever! I really like the jawbones we picked up…

On the Jawbones–yes, they work nice. However, I just can’t quite get the fitting right. It seems like it just hangs off my ear, not really in the canal like I’m used to with all the other kits I’ve used.

As for the Blackbird. It is the most awesomest computer ever.

Looks pretty sweet! This is the stuff I miss. You always know how to get the best gadgets!! I have an intel pentium 2 xeon processor, is that still cool, or not?

Man, Shez! It’s good to hear from you after all these years. Yeah, the P2 Xeon processor will work just fine if you’re into Windows 98 and all those cool flying toaster screensavers and stuff. But for modern gaming–er–computing, it can’t cut it. The Blackbird is an expensive device, for sure–it’s akin to the Lamborghini’s of the computing world (in fact, it’s door technology was worked on my an auto manufacturer). But it’s a treat to me for being such a cheapskate all these years. Plus, I can sit on it and it’ll take my weight.
